Lash Glue 101: How To Keep Your Eyelash Extension Glue Working Perfectly For Longer

Step one of being a great lash tech is making sure your products are working to the best of their ability. While great lash retention primarily comes down to how you prep the lashes before you even think about applying your first lash extension, taking care of your lash extension glue comes in at a close second. Here's everything you need to know about keeping your glue fresh, so that it works are well as it's supposed to!

First Things First, Here's What We Do...

It would be unfair of us to put all of the pressure on you to take care of your glue without us taking care of it first. If we stored glue improperly or for too long, then you'd be getting off to a rubbish start when it comes to your glue's performance. 

So what do we do to make sure you and your glue are getting off on the right foot? Well, first of all, we make sure to store it properly, and only for as long as we need to. 

All of our glue is stored in a temperature controlled environment, in airtight containers and with loads of silica gel packets. They're also, of course, kept in the airtight aluminium pouches along with their own silica gel pouches that you receive them in.

As well as this, we make sure we only order as much as we need to by placing an order every two months. It's taken a lot of practice—and not to mention maths— on our Procurement Team's part to work out the amount of each glue we need at any given time, but it's better for us to run out very temporarily in the case that a glue gets a bit more popular, than it is to send you glue that doesn't have as long left being perfect as it should have. 

By ordering afresh batch of glue every two months, you know that any time you buy a new bottle of eyelash extension glue from us, you have at least four months to use it up.

How You Can Keep Your Lash Glue Fresh

Now you know what we do, how can you make sure your glue is fresh and well looked after?

First things first, don't buy too many glues at any one time. Even if glue is heavily discounted during big sales like Black Friday, it's not a good idea to stock up on more than you can get through within six months. of purchase.

As we've touched on above, glue has a shelf life of only six months to be used from the date of production (DOP). To find out the DOP of any of our lash glues, check the bottom of the bottle. We make sure the DOP is printed on there (in the date/month/year format) so you can tell easily how long you have left to use your lash glue, and to help make stock rotation easier.

Once you do open your lash glue, it's recommended that you replace the bottle every six weeks to ensure it doesn't get too much exposure to the humidity in the air, and is able to perform at its best. An easy way to keep track of this is to take a piece of tape and stick it to the back of your glue bottle when you open it, and write the date on it. Six weeks later, it's time to swap out your bottle!

What Are Some Signs That Your Lash Glue is No Longer Fresh?

• You don’t hear movement when you shake the bottle
• Despite shaking well, the lash adhesive is still grey and separated when you dispense it
• The glue is stringy when you dispense it
• The glue is stringy when you pull a lash from it (this can also happen if the glue dot has been on your jade stone for a long time, so make sure you’re dispensing a new drop every 15-20 minutes) 
• There is white residue on the adhesive around the nozzle (this means that the nozzle has come into contact with moisture and shock polymerised - this is largely due to the nozzle not having been cleaned properly, and the lid not being put back on tightly enough after use. This doesn’t necessarily mean that the glue inside the bottle will be unusable but if moisture can get to the nozzle, it can get to the glue, so use with caution!) 
• Lashes don’t last, or they brush off during or at the end of the set (this can also be due to the lash adhesive working too rapidly, either due to room conditions or because it is a very fast glue, like Royal Bond, when something more gradually drying like Lady Bond would be a better fit for you - check these factors too, as it may not be the glue’s fault!) 
• It is more than 6 months old according to the DOP on the bottom of the bottle
• It has been open for more than 8 weeks
• It has been left on a windowsill or above a radiator instead of somewhere cool in an airtight container.
