Understanding Humidity’s Impact on Lash Extension Glue

Finding the right eyelash glue for your eyelash extensions is crucial for every lash technician, but understanding how humidity affects that glue is just as important. The conditions in your workspace, especially humidity, can make or break your glue’s performance—whether you’re applying classic eyelash extensions, hybrid lashes, or volume lashes. Here’s why staying on top of your lash room’s humidity levels is key for flawless lash extensions.

    Humidity's Effect on Lash Glue

It’s simple: high humidity makes lash glue dry faster. If the humidity in your workspace is too high, your eyelash glue may start curing before you’ve had the chance to apply the eyelash extensions. This results in weak bonds, and you’ll often find lash extensions brushing off when you do a final comb-through, especially with delicate volume lashes or wispy lashes.

Other Reasons Lash Extensions Fall Off Too Soon

    • You didn’t clean the client’s lashes properly. Even if your client’s lashes look clean, invisible residues like skincare products or makeup can affect retention. Always use a lash shampoo during prep.
    • Your glue is too fast for your application speed. A fast-drying eyelash glue might sound great, but if it dries too quickly, you won’t have enough time to apply the lash extensions properly.
    • Your glue is old. Lash glue has a shelf life. After opening, aim to replace it every 4-6 weeks for optimal results.
    • You didn’t shake your glue enough. Properly shaking your lash glue is critical. Shake it for at least a minute before use and between drops to ensure the adhesive is evenly mixed. Use a Glue Shaker to make your life easier!

    Effects of Low Humidity

Low humidity slows down the drying time of your eyelash glue, leading to issues like sticky lashes or leaning lash extensions. These issues can make your work look untidy and affect your client's retention, particularly with intricate volume lashes or classic lashes.

Glue fumes are also attracted to moisture, so low humidity causes the adhesive fumes to migrate toward moist areas such as the client’s eyes, nose, and mouth. This increases the risk of irritation, chemical burns, or respiratory issues.

Key Tip: If glue fumes are affecting you or your client, consider using a fan like the Glamcor Flow to disperse fumes without altering the room’s temperature or humidity levels. It’s also essential to ensure your under eye patches are applied securely to protect the client’s skin during the procedure.

Adjusting Humidity in Your Lash Room

If your humidity is too low, invest in a good humidifier. Make sure it suits the size of your lash room—if your space is small, avoid an oversized humidifier that could push your humidity too high. You can also use a micro brush to apply tiny droplets of water on the under eye patches (but be careful not to let the water touch the lashes) to raise the humidity near the client’s face.

Adding Booster to your pretreatment routine can also help by speeding up the glue’s curing time, improving retention by increasing the surface area for the glue to grip. This is especially useful when working with tricky styles like hybrid lashes or wispy lashes.

If your humidity is too high, a dehumidifier is the best option. It works across all seasons and will help you maintain consistent room conditions for perfect lash extensions. Just make sure it’s the right size for your space.

Key Tip: Keep your humidifier or dehumidifier away from your lash trolley and hygrometer. If your humidifier is too close to the hygrometer, it could give you a false humidity reading, causing you to adjust your glue usage incorrectly. Similarly, placing it too close to your lash glue can lead to inconsistent results.

How AC and Heating Affect Humidity

While air conditioning and heating do a great job of keeping you and your client comfortable, they can alter your room’s humidity. Both tend to lower humidity levels, so keep a close eye on your hygrometer to ensure the right balance for your eyelash extensions.

Humidity can be your eyelash glue’s best friend or worst enemy, and it's a critical factor in the success of your lash extensions. Whether you're applying classic eyelash extensions, hybrid lashes, or volume lashes, keeping an eye on your workspace’s temperature and humidity levels with a hygrometer will help you achieve the best results. The right lash glue, in the right conditions, will lead to stronger bonds, better lash retention, and happier clients.

By adjusting humidity levels as needed and staying on top of your lash glue storage and application techniques, you’ll have one less thing to worry about when creating flawless sets of lash extensions.
