Your Guide to Hybrid Lash Extensions | London Lash AUS Blog

Choosing the Best Lashes for Hybrid Sets: A Versatility Guide

Hybrid eyelash extensions have always been popular, but these days, it seems like 7 out of 10 clients are asking for them! What’s their secret? It’s all about versatility. Hybrid lashes combine the best of classic eyelash extensions and volume lashes, making them the go-to choice for many clients. If you’re still getting your head around what makes hybrid lashes so fantastic, or if you’re unsure about which lashes to use for a hybrid lash set, no worries – you’re about to get all the info you need!

    What Exactly Are Hybrid Lashes?

Hybrid lash extensions are a blend of classic eyelash extensions and volume eyelash extensions. The versatility of hybrid lashes means you can create nearly any look your client desires – from a wispy lash set to a mega volume lash look or even a super natural style that could pass for their real lashes.

People often think of hybrid lashes as a 50/50 mix of volume fans and classic lashes, and while you can do this, there’s a lot more you can experiment with. You might go heavy on the volume fans and add a few classic lashes for spikes, like in a Kim K wispy lash look. Or, you might use mostly classic lashes and fill in any gaps with a 2D fan on either side of the natural lashes.

Choosing the Right Lashes for Hybrid Sets

To keep it simple, you’ll need some volume lashes and some classic lashes. This might mean mixing 0.15 classic lashes with 0.07 volume lashes, using 0.10 lashes for both classic lashes and 2D volume fans for a super light set, or combining 0.03 mega volume lashes with 0.25 flat lashes for a textured, spiky look.

Don’t be afraid to mix and match different lash collections either. For example, our Mayfair range has a dark, shiny finish, which might seem like it would clash with our matte Flat Lashes. But trust us, the contrast will be subtle and add extra dimension to your hybrid set.

The possibilities are endless, and the only limit is your imagination when it comes to hybrid lashes.

TOP TIP! Got a combination in mind but not sure if it’ll work? Test it out on a mannequin head or practice lashes first. It’s not exactly the same as working on a human, but it’ll give you a good idea of how well the different lash thicknesses will blend together.

Wait, Can You Use Two or More Types of Lashes?

Yep, the world of hybrid lashes is your oyster! In the photo below, Lash Master and Creative Genius Iryna Prylypko mixed 6D premade fans with 0.20 and 0.25 flat lashes to create a light yet textured wispy lash look.

Absolutely! If you want to really make a statement, you can even do a full set of coloured eyelash extensions, using different colours for your fans and spikes. Our coloured lashes come in 0.15 and 0.07, a common pairing when creating hybrid lash extensions because they complement each other so well.

How Long Does It Take to Apply Hybrid Lashes?

The timing depends on the balance between classic eyelash extensions and volume eyelash extensions, as well as the thickness of the lashes and the size of your fans. If you’re doing 2D 0.10 fans with 0.10 classic lashes, it’ll be a quicker process than creating 5D fans with 0.07 and mixing them with 0.15 classic lashes.

Generally, a hybrid lash set takes a bit longer than a set of classic eyelash extensions but not as long as a full volume lash set.

How Long Can Hybrid Lashes Last?

We often get asked if hybrid lashes last longer than classic lashes. While it might seem like they do, it’s really just because there are at least some volume fans doing the heavy lifting. Here’s the deal: when a natural lash with a classic lash attached falls out (totally normal due to the hair’s natural growth cycle – make sure to remind your clients of this!), it leaves a more obvious gap. With volume lashes, when a fan falls out, the surrounding fans usually cover that gap.

With hybrid lashes, the mix of classic lashes and volume lashes means gaps can be covered a bit better, so the set might seem fuller for longer compared to a classic lash set. However, the growth rate of natural lashes remains the same, so to keep them looking fresh, clients should still book lash fill appointments every 2-3 weeks, depending on their hair growth rate.

That’s pretty much the lowdown! While no treatment is truly one-size-fits-all, hybrid lashes come pretty close. Offering them means you can cater to a wide range of clients with varying tastes, so it’s definitely worth adding them to your services and practising any set your imagination can dream up!

Remember to use the right eyelash glue and have a good glue remover on hand for when your clients are ready for a change!
