Exploring the Versatility of Volume Lash Extensions

Four Essential Volume Lash Application Techniques 

Volume lash extensions have been around since 2011, and even in that short time, they've evolved a lot. Today, we have a wide range of thicknesses and types of volume eyelash extensions to cater to every client’s unique needs. Just like any other lash extension style, you can choose any lash mapping technique you like.

Let’s explore the different looks you can create with volume lashes, and when to go for a doll eye, cat eye, or any other lash mapping style.

Natural Volume Lash Extensions

What’s considered natural varies from client to client, but if we think of natural as a lighter look with a slightly wispy lash line, you might style it using 0.10 lashes in 2D, or even 0.07 in 2-3D for a lighter finish. For an extra natural look, consider using brown lash extensions. They’re still quite dark but offer a much softer finish to your lash set.

When creating your wispy lash line, instead of dropping down 1 millimeter each time you go up a layer like in super neat Russian Volume sets, you’ll just apply the same length lash to each layer. This won’t be super wispy, but it’ll achieve that natural look you’re after.

Light Volume Lashes

You could argue that light volume and natural volume are similar, but we see natural volume as your client’s own lashes, while light volume lashes are obviously extensions, just very wearable. Ideal for clients who don’t wear much makeup or aren’t after a super dense, dark look.

For light volume lashes, go for 0.07 in 3D, or 4D if your client has sparse lashes. You can also opt for 0.06 or 0.05 lashes to create a really light and fluffy set with 4D or 5D fans. With a light volume set, there’s no reason you can’t add some coloured eyelash extensions too. Wispy Volume Lash Extensions

Similar to natural volume lash extensions, there’s plenty you can do to make a lash set wispy. By simply reversing what you’d do for a super even top line and going up by 1 millimeter each layer, you can achieve a wispy set without much effort.

Another trick is to mix closed fans and small 2-3D fans like in an Angel lash set, or keep all your fans closed for a wet look lash set. There are so many trending lash styles, and most fall under the wispy lash extensions category, so don’t hesitate to get creative!

Mega Volume Lash Extensions

What’s considered mega volume can vary from Lash Tech to Lash Tech. From our perspective, anything more than 9D counts as mega volume. The key to a dark and dense mega volume set lies not just in large fans but also in working with the lash layers. If you ignore the layers or leave gaps, you won’t achieve the density you’re after.

Besides large fans (think 12D) and layers, density comes from the width of the fan and the length of the lashes. Narrow fans will make your work look denser than wider fans because there’s less space between each lash for light to pass through.

Shorter fans will also add more density than longer ones for the same reason. If your client has sparse lashes, achieving a dense look can be tricky due to natural gaps. One approach is to use narrow fans on the top and middle layers, and on the bottom layer, use shorter, wider fans to cover the gaps. This will give you a bit of a wispy lash line, but the narrow fans on the middle and top layers will maintain the density better than wider fans. The short lashes on the bottom layer will give your set that dark, fluffy goodness!
