The Hidden Benefit of Lash Prep… | London Lash AUS Blog

Boost Retention, Impress Clients, and Avoid This Common Issue with Lash Prep

We’re always emphasising how crucial good lash prep is for ensuring great retention of eyelash extensions. We’ve also touched on how prepping your client's lashes makes the whole process smoother and shows that you’re a Lash Tech who’s serious about hygiene and cleanliness. But here’s something we haven’t mentioned yet: Lash Prep can actually fix one of the most frustrating issues you can face while applying a set of eyelash extensions. If you’re still not convinced about the importance of lash prep, this might just sway you!

Let’s dive into how adding one simple step to your lash extensions routine can save you time and a whole lot of hassle.

    Identifying the Problem

We’re pretty sure you’ve been there – under eye patches lifting while you’re trying to work your magic with eyelash extensions. This can happen for a few reasons. Maybe your under eye patches are a bit old and the gel has dried out, or perhaps it’s due to your client's eye shape. But more often than not, it’s because there’s makeup, skincare residue, or just plain old sebum on the skin under the eyes, which stops the eye patches from sticking properly. Even using micropore tape or eyelid tape to hold the patches in place isn’t always foolproof.

    Why Does This Matter?

Under eye patches lifting while you’re working is a pain for a few reasons. Firstly, it’s just plain annoying. When you’re focused on applying lash extensions, the last thing you need is to be constantly fiddling with under eye patches. Plus, the time you spend trying to keep them in place eats into your application time, meaning your clients might not walk away with as full a set of lashes as they could have if you weren’t fussing with the patches.

Another issue is fullness. Under eye patches lift, it’s usually in the inner corners. This can lead to the lashes in those corners being covered by the lifted patches, so when you remove them at the end of the treatment, you might find that some lashes haven’t been extended, leaving the set looking a bit unfinished.

Lastly, patches lifting can cause your clients to have red eyes after their lash extensions appointment. Here’s why: when the patches move and you have to keep adjusting them, your client’s eyes might open slightly, allowing eyelash glue fumes to get in and cause irritation. Even worse, if the patches lift without you noticing, they could slip into the eyes and cause abrasions on the eyeball – definitely not comfortable for your client and not a good look either. If this is something you’ve struggled with, you might want to check out our blog post on how to avoid these issues.

How Lash Prep Solves the Problem

Lash prep helps by getting rid of the makeup, skincare products, and sebum that cause under eye patches to lift in the first place. If you’re only using Lash Cleanser and Eyelash Primer on the lashes without touching the skin, you probably won’t see much difference. The key is to thoroughly cleanse the skin around the eyes.

Ideally, you’d start with Lash Shampoo as the first step in a more thorough lash prep routine. It’s also a great option if you’re pressed for time or if you’re a beginner looking to keep your lash supplies to a minimum. Lash shampoo cleanses both the lashes and the skin around the eyes, but you’ll get even better results if you follow up with Protein Removing Cleansing Pads. These will get rid of any residue left behind by the lash shampoo.

Make sure you let the skin dry properly before applying your under eye patches or tape. Once it’s dry, you can go ahead and apply them without worrying about them lifting during the eyelash extensions application.

There’s so much good that comes from having a solid lash prep routine, and we can’t stress enough the benefits of even just one good product designed to cleanse lashes and skin. This allows you to work safely, accurately, and give your clients stunning classic eyelash extensions, volume lashes, hybrid lashes, or wispy lashes every single time they visit you.

And remember, a good glue remover is always handy to have when your clients are ready for a change!
