Before we dive in, let’s cover the basics — what exactly are hybrid lashes? In a nutshell, hybrid lashes mix classic eyelash extensions with volume fans. While the standard hybrid lash set is often a 50/50 blend of the two, there’s plenty of room to customise the ratio depending on the look your client is after and the condition of their natural lashes.
If you want to dive deeper into hybrid lashes before deciding which products to add to your collection, this blog post is a great place to start:
Everything You Need to Know About Hybrid Lashes
There are countless ways to style hybrid lashes, so we’ll break it down in a way that’s easy to follow, without overloading you with options.
Start with the basics: use 0.15 classic lashes, and 0.07 volume lashes to create fans up to 5D. For a softer, more natural vibe, try 0.10 lashes for both your classic eyelash extensions and 2D fans. If your client’s after a more dramatic look, go for 0.05 lashes in fans up to 9D, and consider flat lashes in 0.20.
DID YOU KNOW: Flat lashes are made by bonding two ultra-fine lashes together. This gives them the look of a thicker classic lash but with about half the weight. So, you can create those bold looks without compromising your client’s lash health!
If you’ve already got a favourite eyelash glue, feel free to stick with it for your hybrid lash sets. However, keep in mind that working with volume lashes can take a bit more time than classic eyelash extensions, especially when you’re still mastering your technique. It might be a good idea to experiment with a slower-setting lash glue for the volume fans or adjust your humidity levels—raising it for classic lashes and lowering it for volume lashes. Be sure to keep your digital hygrometer and thermometer handy to maintain optimal conditions.
TOP TIP: When applying a hybrid lash set, start with your classic lashes. Then, use a bit of tape to hold them back while you apply the volume lash fans. This makes it easier to get full coverage and reduces the chances of lash extensions sticking together.
If you’re already doing hybrid lashes, chances are you’ve got your go-to tweezers for both classic lashes and volume lashes. If not, check out our selection of classic lash tweezers here and volume lash tweezers here.
One tool worth investing in is a pair of multifunctional tweezers. They’re great for classic eyelash extensions, quick 2D fans, easy fan lashes, premade fans, and even shorter lashes. With super fine tips, they give you precision and control, letting you see exactly what you’re doing.
Lash prep is key to long-lasting lash extensions. Stock up on lash cleanser, lash primer and lash shampoo to show your clients you’re serious about both their experience and their lash health. If you’re unsure about your eyelash prep routine, this blog post has all the tips you need.
Always have some glue remover on hand. Cream remover is your best bet for taking off full sets of lashes, while gel glue remover works a treat for spot removal during lash fills. And no lash extension kit is complete without tape and under eye patches to protect the bottom lashes while you work your magic on those wispy lashes.
If you’d rather skip the guesswork and want a ready-made solution, we’ve got you covered with a curated kit. It’s packed with a selection of lashes and products for both classic and volume lash extensions, making it the perfect choice for getting started with hybrid lashes!
